MySQL Administrator crashes KWin?
by Kelly Miller
Because I'm taking PHP again at college, I've been looking into getting
Apache, PHP and MySQL running on my Fedora install again. It isn't hard,
because it's not the first time I've done it, but I DO notice something
strange...
When I try to run MySQL Administrator or MySQL Query Browser, and I select
to "Save Connection", the resulting window causes KWin to crash and part of
Kicker to disappear. The error doesn't seem to be with Administrator or QB
themselves (I don't see any errors from them), and I'm not sure what the
problem might be...

Internet traffic and Azureus -
by Bob Goodwin
Can someone tell me hos Azureus on a Windows computer on my LAN might
affect the amount of data downloaded via my ISP?
My son-in-law finally admitted that his son had installed Azureus on his
computer while visiting a couple weeks ago. WE have a limited amount of
data allowed by Wildblue, 17 gigs in a 30 day period and it is becoming
a panic situation with less than 2 gigs before we hit the limit and they
take action!
Can Azureus be the cause of the excessive traffic or am I looking in the
wrong place. I closed the bittorrent port in the router months ago and
that should still be closed ...
Presently we have his computer shut down. There's no telling what he's
got on it but my daughter is threatening to put him back on dial-up! I
can see a period of strife on the horizon.

eth0/1
by tony.chamberlain@lemko.com
We have a server, 10.0.0.215/192.168.5.15 which is also on the outside network (it can get to the network, but people can't get to it).
So generally if you are logged into it you can do things like ping yahoo.com, ping goole.com, http://mail.yahoo.com, etc.
Recently, it started acting up. I could get to other 192.168.5.X machines and also to 10.X.X.X machines, but could not get out
(pinging externally did not work). The firewall did not change. After playing around a bit with neat, and stopping eth0 (192.168.5.15)
and starting it again, I was agin able to reach the outside.
You'd think it may be a problem with the network, but other 192.168.5.X machines were able to get out.
I am not sure what might be causing this problem. Seems to happen a few times. Other starnge things too like freeze ups when
trying to SCP, etc.
/var/log/messages did ask "do you have some kind of strange power saving setting?" but I could not find anything. Looked in preferences
and system settings.
Any ideas?

No Announcements for Today's F-7 Updates?
by Peter Gordon
Hmm.
I updated my Fedora 7 install a few moments ago with various packages;
but these seemed to have no corresponding update notifications to the
fedora-package-announce list; and I'm pretty sure that it's not just my
mail filters acting up again because the web-based archives don't have
any such update notices either. :|
Is this absence intentional (buildsystem fixes/updates perhaps)?
Thanks.

Re: Re: wpa_supplicant - how?

Hi Andy
I tried this - and the driver did load but is highly unstable in my machine.
As soon as it fired up it loaded the driver when I plugged in the USB
dongle, and managed to get an IP address via dhclient OK, but looking
at iwconfig it showed a speed of 1Mb/s listed.
Very soon after that the link dropped out, and got a lot of messages with:
kernel: phy0 -> rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed
for offset 0x308c with error -110
The machine was difficult to do anything with at that point - and I
could not kill the message stream - indeed in the end it hung both X
and the kernel crashed!
Am reverting to rt73 for the moment!

upgrade ram
by rodrigo morales
hello
I am going to update my ram
I have 512 mb and I am going it to increase to 1024 mb (1gb)
in swap now I have 1024 mb (1gb)
As I can update or change the partition of swap so that mb has 2048 (2 gb)?
It is necessary that my ram raises to the partition swap when updating?
exists some command or some form to modify the space of swap?
Greetings

Re: [NFS] nfs write problems
by Bob Kryger
Interesting development that changes the suspect component.
On the suggestion of a colleague I setup samba and mounted the same
location via CIFS.
I am getting the same results the files are corrupted if they are
written via samba or NFS.
Now, I'm really confused. I guess I'll try swapping out the SCSI HBA.
Thanks
Bob

Install Fedora Core 7 as a guest in VMWare
by YEUNG Jacky
Dear all,
Do anyone have experience installing Fedora Core 7 as a guest OS in VMware?
I'm now facing the problem that when I boot up with Fedora 7 DVD and start install, it always stops at loading the piix driver.
What problems maybe there?
Thanks a lot.
Best Regards,
Jacky
