Paul,
Yes, I'm running as root.
Package management works ok.
Permissions are:
-rw------- 1 root root 25262 Jul 3 13:05 yum.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 30898 May 8 17:13 yum.log.1

Desktop v System? A small itch...
by Morgan Read
Hi Folks,
Every fc5 desktop I see an image of has three menus at the top left
panel: Applications; Places; System.
But, mine has: Applications; Places; Desktop
This was an old configuration for fc4? I did a new install (but moved
some prefs across). Any ideas why this might be and how to join the
rest of the flock?
Regards,
Morgan.

Activare wireless network +wpa on boot instead of through NetworkManager?
by David Jansen
I just switched my desktop pc (FC5) from ethernet to wireless (makes
redecorating the house so much easier ;))
NetworkManager and ndiswrapper work like a charm, I'm really impressed
by the state of these utilities.
Now what I was wondering to take things one step further: is it possible
to have the wireless network (with wpa) enabled on reboot, in stead of
booting without network, logging in, and waiting for NetworkManager to
pop up the dialog to ask for the keyring password in order to activate
WPA encryption ?
system-config-network can of course be used to specify that wlan0 should
be activated on boot, but it doesn't have settings for WPA
Is this possible, or should I use WEP-encryption instead (which
s-c-network can handle automatically)

or you can enter 'text' mode by typing 'linux text' at boot prompt
though for newbies, GUI is easier.

No GUI
by Edmund C. Daulton
I am new to Linux and want to install in graphical mode but my display does
not work properly. The installer is able to identify my graphics card but
for the monitor it comes up "unknown type." The monitor is an IBM 6549 G96
CRT and the computer is a Dell Dimension 9100 desktop. All I get on the
screen once it tries to start the native X server for the install are
vertical lines on the screen. If anyone can help me or know what I need to
type before starting the graphical install I would love to hear it. Please
Help!!

now its netatalk and libgssapi.so.1 :-)
by Tom Horsley
OK, the latest update repos don't give me errors about
libgssapi.so.1 and nfs-utils anymore, now they complain
about this:
Missing Dependency: libgssapi.so.1()(64bit) is needed by package
netatalk
Presumably netatalk is something that needs updating as well
in order to expect the correct version of libgssapi.
Does it only describe these one at a time when it runs into
the first one? It might take years to find all the rpms
that depend on libgssapi that way :-).
