Is this a know problem?

fedora-ds install ---> System message bus trashed
by A.J. Bonnema
Hi all,
I wanted to tryout the fedora ds (directory server) of Redhat and went
to the redhat site for explanations.
So I downloaded the FC5 version and installed it. After that I used
setup from the /opt/fedora-ds/setup directory to configure fds.
Now two things happened:
1. I configured LDAP for authorization, my normal user (not root) got
locked out.
2. So I reconfigured so that LDAP was only used for info and when
logging on as a normal user I got the message from GNOME that the system
bus was not running and needed to be started.
3. So I restarted.
4. Now I can not boot into FC5, because the startup hangs when "starting
System Message Bus".
Does anyone know what I did wrong? Or what I can do to rectify the
misstake I made?
Or maybe how to diagnose what is wrong?
Also how do you change the settings for the system message bus?
Finally, I wonder why this package is no part of Fedora Extras?
Guus.

Where is it mounted?
by WipeOut
Hi,
Priors to FC5 I mounted my Samba shares using the fstab file.. Now on my
new FC5 install I have used the "Places" menu, using "Network Servers"
and "Connect to Server" options..
So far its all been great..
Today I needed to use GFTP to connect to a server and upload some files
that are stored on my Samba server..
Before I would find the mount points under /mnt (where I set them to be)..
Where are they now?
I can't seem to find where the Samba shares are mounted into the local
file system..
Anyone have any pointers?
Thanks..

Screen resolution problem
by Jamie Bohr
I recently upgraded by laptop from Fedora 3 to Fedora 5. Nice work to the
developers. Of course there are a few things I need to iron out ....
system-config-display does not save my setting when I select a dual head
configuration, is any one else seeing this? I get the following when I run
it from the command prompt:
$ sudo /usr/bin/system-config-display
in hydrate_second
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/system-config-display/xConfigDialog.py", line 136, in ok
lower_vrefresh, upper_vrefresh = string.split(str(
self.second_monitor_vrefresh), "-")
ValueError: need more than 1 value to unpack

When I press okay I do not get the message about it saving the old
configutation nor does the file change. Should I file a bug report?

Is this effective immediately?
In other words, was the libstdc++so7-4.2.0-0.3.20060203.3 update on
Friday the last update announcement coming to fedora-announce-list?
Or is there a cut-over time?
Perhaps best would be to continue posting to f-announce-l and cross-post
to f-package-announce for another week? Give people time to sign up
before stopping their the package announcement feed?

Getting older kernels...
by patrick
I'm wondering if it's possible to get older versions of kernels
anywhere? Specifically, I'm looking for and i386 version of
2.6.13-1.1526_FC4. I have some machines that worked best with this
particular kernel, and I sadly do not have it anymore (I had to
reinstall, and this kernel wasn't the most recent when I did a "yum
update".) All of the more recent kernels I've tried seem to cause the
machine to eventually freeze when left running.

how to run script after suspend to disk

Hi,
how to run my own script when starting from "hibernate" mode? (I need to
restart squid and correct centrino-voltages and fan speeds).
rc.local is called on "regular starting" only, right?

Installing FC from HDD image
by Ali Helmy
Hey mates,
I have the FC5 DVD iso image on my WinXP computer, at [C:/FC DVD] and the
extracted version of that image at [ C:/FC DVD/Extracted], where C is my
only partition on my primary HDD (which I think should be hda1, right?)
So when I load up Grub using [vmlinuz] and [ startrd.img], it asks me for
the source of the installation media (you know the menu with Local CD-ROM,
NFS image, HDD image, FTP, HTTP). When I choose HDD image, it presents me
with three options (even though I only have two HDDs); namely [ /dev/hda1] [
/dev/hdb1] and [/dev/hdb2]
I tried entering [ /FC DVD/] or [/FC DVD/Extracted/] with and without the
start and ending slashes, with all of the three available HDD options, but
it always gives me:
Error: Failed to read directory /tmp/hdimage/Fedora DVD: No such file or
directory...
followed by
Error: Device /dev/hda1 does not seem to contain Fedora CD images
So, what is wrong? and If there should be another procedure to install FC5
from my computer, please tell me... I already have the DVD iso downloaded

Cheers,
A. Helmy

Most likely it means that you already have the package installed. Here
is how to check:
$ rpm -q compat-libstdc++-33
----------------------------------------------------------------
it seems that it is installed !
$ rpm -q compat-libstdc++-33
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-55.fc5
thank you
