Bluetooth Adaptors
by seawolf //..
Hello,
Just wanted to ask for any recommendations for Bluetooth adaptors like the
Gigabyte
http://uk.giga-byte.com/Communication/Products/Products_Bluetooth_GN-BTD0...
thingy, because I'm having trouble finding Linux drivers. I am aware there
are drivers built in to the kernel, but would those cover most of these or,
even better, that particular one?
TIA,
seawolf

Dear frieds ,
When I try to find a file on my file system I receive
this message , do you have any idea regarding this
issue?
find: WARNING: Hard link count is wrong for /proc:
this may be a bug in your filesystem driver.
Automatically turning on find's -noleaf option.
Earlier results may have failed to include directories
that should have been searched.
Thank you,

Cheap way to practice clustering?
by thomas cameron
Hi all -
I posted about using firewire for clustering practice a couple of days
ago. It turns out that this apparently requires a special, very expensive
firewire solution.
So I want to play around with clustering (as in high availability
clustering a la Red Hat Cluster Suite, not computational clustering) at
home so that I can become more proficient. The problem is, I don't want
to buy a multi-thousand dollar SAN for my house. I wanted to find a way
to do clustering on the cheap. I am not sure what path to take, so I am
going to toss it to the list to see if anyone has any suggestions. I am
totally open to older/used equipment.
>From what I've been told, I need a storage device which is multi-host
aware, so plain old firewire or even SCSI JBOD won't do. I've been
looking at the specs at
http://www.redhat.com/software/rha/cluster/hardware/.
I'm leaning towards VMWare at this point, but I'd rather do it for real
than in virtual machines.
Any pointers?
Thanks!

Ed,
it seems that you have missed some post on the list. Please check as
output of ifconfig was posted yesterday.
Check also messages by Bob Chiodini that found some differences between
standard and SMP in var/log/messages.
Maybe that they are not yet on the list due to some lag in publishing...
Tnx

To provide you with more info we really need to know what the power
supply is rated at. i.e. 400w, 700w, etc...
Regardless I'd look at the APC products.

FC4: Ways to use PalmPilot
by pking123@sympatico.ca
Last night, I noticed that FC4 (Fedora 4) was able to read my
PalmPilot m105 (the first one to do so after much on again/off again
trying.
Now, emboldened, I would like to know if there are any Linux
applications, similar to the Palm Desktop that can be used to add
updates to things like the Date Book and the To-Do list?
Any suggestions? I would even accept suggestions on the level of
using vi, emacs, or whatnot. The problem is that the To-Do list and
the Datebook appear to have some kind of special format (upon
checking it with 'less') that would make it seem that vi/emacs is not
the way to go, except to add ascii files.
Thanks

FC3: Network stalls
by Dennis Bjorklund
I'm having problems with network stalls with FC3. When I try to use
ssh/scp between 2 FC3 machines over the internet (both computers on ADSL)
then it transfer a small amount of data and then stalls. For example with
ssh, doing ls on a small dir work, but doing ls on a dir with a lot of
files can make the connection stall and never start working again.
When I work on the local network then there is no problem.
It seems that I'm not the only one with this problem and linux 2.6. I've
found this thread and many others using google:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2005-April/thread.html#01249
What I havn't found is a bugzilla bug that discuss it, or a lkml thread.
Some guy in the thread above had problem with FC3 but when he tried RHE3
on the same machine it worked. This suggests it might be a kernel problem.
I bet the real error is the stupid ISP that have broken hardware where
damaged packages arrive or something, but since RHE3 seems to be able to
handle it one which FC3 could also.
I really would like to find this problem being discussed somewhere by
someone who can do something about it. But since a common problem seems to
be cheap ADSL commections maybe it's just the wrong guys that it affects
(non kernel hacker people). Do anyone have a pointer for me?

Setting up Environment variables of Intel fortran compiler
by David Niemi
I have installed this compiler for some testing work and am not 100%
sure where to put the references listed.
************ Excerpt from Install Instructions
The programs in the Intel Fortran Compiler 9.0 for Linux product rely on
the environment variables PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH. The installation
script (install.sh) creates compiler environment script files
(ifortvars.sh/idbvars.sh) that set these variables. It is strongly
recommended that you add those script files into your login script
(.login file). Once the variables are set in the ".login" file there is
no need to run the script files for each session.
source the script to setup the compiler environment:
* > source <install-dir>/bin/ifortvars.sh(.csh)
to use ifort
* > source <install-dir>/bin/idbvars.sh(.csh)
to use idb
******************
Should I put the paths to the script files in my .bash_profile or
in /etc/profile so that all users (me) can use it?
Would there be a particular format to doing this?
Tried searching the RH Enterprise manuals and having a look through the
messages that I have kept. There was the "Running a script at boot"
thread to put the scripts in rc.local to run at boot but would this be
the right place to start setting up environment variables?
Also my rc.local has the line: "touch /var/lock/subsys/local" Which
means / does what?
Thanks
Dave
