What happened to my swap ? !!
by Appeet
I originally installed my installation with swap on hdb4 (linux on hda2)
However when I "physically" mounted my second harddrive I had to install it as a secondary slave. Because of this reason the definition for my swap is now hdd4. When I do a "top" I see that swap available is "0" (I originally had 1 gb on hdb4) so i guess my question now is how do I make linux use hdd4 as swap.
Thanks in advance.

(dell8200) laptop with disk(hda) and cd(hdb) too busy?
by Peter Teuben
My dell8200 laptop has often given me problems with disk I/O
speed in both KDE and Gnome when their cd-cgecking deamon was
active. Thus a command like
hdparm -t /dev/hda
would give me terribly erratic results (1-7 MB/sec) if there was
no CD in the tray. Once mounted, things were better, or normal.
I'd get more like 17-22 MB/s, depending on the disk of course.
At least in rh7 and rh9 i knew how to solve it (they were filed in bugzilla).
I'm sadly returning to this problem with FC3. This time the problem is even
present outside of X. I returned to runlevel 3, but even there i can terrible
I/O. One side-effect of bad disk I/O is that the "startx" command will take
forever to load, and don't even try something like openoffice :-)
So, first of all, i'm looking for soulmates who can confirm that
a dell8200, or any other laptop with hda and hdb populated have the
same problem, and then see how this can be solved. As it stands now,
i cannot use FC3. I don't know if the problem should occur with two
drives on hda and hdb, since once the CD is either inserted or mounted,
the problem appears to go away.
I should also add i've been running FC3 just fine on a desktop, with
IDE (a+c) software raid and a SATA disk.

Hostname in fc
by Partha Bagchi
There was a question about hostname in FC, namely that the router did
not show the name of the linux machine on the router DHCP table. In my
setup (FC3, linksys router), I made the following change: Go to
System Settings -> network
and then select your interface. I have wired and wireless. I picked the
wireless and selected edit. I then changed the DHCP hostname to my
computer name and saved. I restarted the network and voila - They name
was visible in the router DHCP table.

Confused with scanner and libusb
by gaetan yavorsky
Hi,
Moving from FC1 to FC3
Prior to FC3, I had a script like :
res=`/usr/bin/scanimage --mode Color -d epson:/dev/usb/scanner0 --
resolution 100 |/usr/bin/pnmtojpeg >$1`
Now, scanimage -L shows :device `epson:libusb:002:012' is a Epson
StylusScan2500 flatbed scanner
But the problem is that the libusb:xxx:yyy is changing each time the
scanner is plugged in.
Is there any way to make a symlink to something like /dev/scanner, to
use always the same device ?
Thanks.

trouble shooting Fedora Core 3 installation
by Stephen King
I've just installed FC3 on my hard drive
It is incredibly slow and the graphics dont display correctly or refresh
very well; some times not at all.
The only way I can see certain windows is to pass the mouse over the
window to display the contents.
Some program options form the menu don't display at all particularly
those related to system or preferences
Any help would be most appreciated

I had this same situation and solved it by adding "Alias"s to the httpd.conf file. There is an example in the file and some explanatory text but basically you Alias the incoming domain name request to a fully qualified path. example:
Alias /my-domain.com "var/www/my-domain.com"
As with many Linux names you may want to add variations on capitalisation or a trailing slash to be sure they all get through. Leave 'enforcing current' on.
Hope this helps,
bob
