ndiswrapper and d-link pcmcia card
by Karol Pluciennik
Hey!
Recently I compiled new kernel 2.6.6 (with 8k stack) to check whether
I'll be able to run my WiFi card using ndiswrapper and Windows drivers.
At the beginning everything seems to be working - ndiswrapper compiled
succesfully, driver installed without any problems and modprobe worked
perfectly.
One of my problems is that my system hangs from time to time for about
1-2 seconds (mouse stops, everything hangs). I had the same with my LAN
card and managed to solve it ... but I don't remember what was the reason.
Another thing - when I specify some essid to connect to, it seems like
it doesn't connect :( I can ping only my IP address, no others. ifconfig
configuration looks fine, and iwconfig displays that I'm connected to
some Ad-Hoc network.
I have some debug messages, maybe this will help:

mouse not working
by Chiu, PCM (Peter)
I have an odd problem. The PS/2 mouse does not work any more on the FC2
box.
I tried the mouseconfig, reset it, and exit, no avail.
The box is multi-booting, I boot up RH EL 3, the mouse works okay.
I even tried to rebuild the system from scratch using installation CD, but
no good neither.
In fact, I have noticed the mouse didn't work even during the installation
process.
The messages file does not show much info, just said:
IMPS2: auto-detected intelligent mouse.
I plugged in a different mouse, still no good.
Anyone has any idea where else to look?

cdrom not unmounting
by Paul Pianta
hey people
I know this is a common one but I have forgotten it. What is the command
for forcing an umount and ejecting a cdrom that keeps giving the message
'device busy' - even when you know the device is not in use (Fedora Core 1)?
thanks

fresh install for dual boot with winxp : grub hangs
by Hans Horn
Dear all,
I'm trying to install fedora2 on a HP AMD64 box with winxp factory-installed.
I've got two disks, with xp installed on the first one.
after the reboot following the fedora install on the 2nd disk, all I get is: GRUB
using 'linux rescue' I tried to modify grub.conf with no success.
here's what fdisk tells me:
fdisk /dev/hda
/dev/hda hda1 hp-recovery
hda2 NTFS (XP boot)
fdisk /dev/hdd
/dev/hdd hdd1 swap
hda3 ext3 (Linux boot)
device.map says:
hd0 /dev/hda
hd1 /dev/hdd
has anybody got a glue how grub.conf is supposed to look like for grub to work on my system.
right now I'm pretty much dead in the water - can't boot into any OS!

Do you mind sending me the instructions you used to setup email with
Postfix or sendmail and dovecot? I'm been having a hard time setting up
email.

Well I just setup a sendmail server to receive and send and dovecot for
users to pull using either IMAP for POP3. It took about 30 minutes to
setup once I worked through some of the config changes in sendmail and
it
is working great. Postfix works well too and I would recommend it if
you
are not comfortable with sendmail.

anticipatory or cfq io scheduler?
by Stephen So
Hi everyone,
FC2 defaults to the cfq io scheduler but when I compiled my own kernel
(2.6.6), it defaults to the anticipatory scheduler. I know how to
change this back to cfq in the kernel command line but what I'd like to
know is whether there is any difference between the two schedulers. Is
one better than the other? Thanks.
Best regards,
Steve.

xmms
by russell
Xmms has worked fine for me in fc-1, but all of a sudden it stopped
working. If I bring it up it seems to use all available cpu cycles and
never actually makes it to the desktop. I tried uninstalling it with
yum, and reinstalling it, and the same behaviour is exhibited. Does
anyone know where I can look to fix this?

grub default
by c_r_@fedora
Q: How to change Grub's default kernel.
Background-
I have the latest kernel installed, and a previous kernel. On boot, Grub
defaults to select the previous kernel, which it has highlighted. So, I
have to manually each time, hit the arrow key UP, in order to select the
latest.
How, please, do I set Grub to default to the latest kernel?
I don't remember this situation in RH9...
