I am still working on getting fc6 to play videos on www.cnn.com. And I am still not successful using Mozilla. Ok with konqueror though.
My thoughts right now center on codec. I am wondering if I have the right files for this and if I have them placed in the correct directories.
Can someone tell me where I should have gotten them from and where do I place them?
Perhaps this might help me to resolve my problem..
Thanks..

Hello,
I am assuming that you are using Firefox to view Videos at CNN.com. In order to view videos there, you can use a plug-in that I download recently. In the Firefox browser, click on "Tools", "Extensions". When you arrive at the Firefox site for extensions, enter in the dialog box "MediaPlayerConnectivity". It will bring you to a page where you can download this media player. It is actually a plug in which will allow you to view video on most sites. After downloading it, you will can then configure it. Hope this helps.

It's documented on the mplayer home page: http://www.mplayerhq.hu . It doesn't hurt if you read it. Clean-up the old codecs, and download the essential codecs from
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html
(under the Binary Codec Packages section). Unpack them in /usr/local/lib/win32.
However, if you can play the clips at the prompt, you have the codecs. Probably something else is getting in the way of mplayer in firefox. Someone else already suggested that you might have a totem plug-in.
HI to all and particular thanks to Amadeus W. M. for your patience and direction on the codec files and other bits and pieces..
Well - I found success to my problem which simply was the installation of a file called "mediaplayerconnectivity" found in Mozilla>tools>extensions. I search for and installed that file and BINGO!! The video stuff now works perfectly through Mozzila. And everything still works fine in Konqueror as well.
So that is it. I will send another note to the 'list' as well, detailing this find..
Thanks again..

I'm a little lost on finding the
"mediaplayerconnectivity"
I went to the;
Mozilla>tools>extensions site and couldn't find a
"mediaplayerconnectivity
Could you please be a lot more precist.
Thanks Jim

Thanks for your help. The install in Firefox went without a hitch and is using /usr/bin/gmplayer , but I can't get mediaplayer on many sites, what would be a good test site? The codecs I have installed /usr/lib/win32 are W32codecs/essential-20061022.tar.bz2 are . from mplayerhq Are these the correct codecs for Fedora 6?

Those are good codecs, but I don't think the mplayer for FC6 (at least tyhe one from livna) looks in /usr/lib/win32 anymore. I had to put my codecs in /usr/lib/codecs to make it work.
Sorry -- You go to the Mozilla>tools>extensions site and once there you have a chance to look for more 'things'. That is what you bring up and than do a search for "mediaplayerconnectivity". It will pop up. Make your selection and than you will be all set. Hope I didn't confuse you further..
