Do I remember this correctly? I'm asking because it doesn't seem to be working with my card. I seem to remember reading this somewhere, but I can't find that info now.

Right, r200 series cards (>7000, <=9250) are not supported by fglrx anymore (r100 series, i.e. the 7000, haven't been supported before either). That's what the Free driver is for! It works perfectly with my Radeon 9200SE.

It's nice that it works for you. Give me a break - I asked the question for a reason. I'm not trying to impose my preference on you, please reciprocate.

Which is what driver? radeon, ati , or what?
I am currently running Radeon 9000 Pro (hrm, guess know what I might ask for Christmas hehe).

It's "radeon", but if you write "ati" into xorg.conf, it will know what to load (the "ati" driver is just a wrapper which loads the relevant driver). The "radeon" X driver will in turn load one of the "radeon" (r100), "r200" and "r300" (also for r400) DRI drivers, if I'm not mistaken.

Which ever one says its the r200 driver in a "make xconfig", radeon according to make xconfig and an lsmod report.
