I am looking at buying a HP ProLiant DL140 G3 and am wondering what the support on Fedora for this is like.
Does latest or still supported Fedora support this hardware ?
If so are there video drivers ?
I found some forum which says it has Matrox G200 video driver.
Many thanks in advance,
Aaron

I am wondering due to the lack of replies whether servers tend to be supported by RHEL rather than Fedora, same for suse.

I can tell you off-hand that your server (and video chip) would work fine with Fedora 14, but if you are putting this server into a mission critical environment then you should go with RHEL 6.

According to http://fedoraproject.org/en/about-fedora,
"We believe in the power of innovation and showing off new work in our releases. Since we release twice a year, you never have to wait long to see the latest and greatest software, while there are other Linux products derived from Fedora you can use for long-term stability. We always keep Fedora moving forward so that you can see the future first."
I can't tell you anything about SuSE, sorry.

What about the SATA driver ?
Its not really mission critical, I have been running two mirrored old Fujitsu-Siemens servers for over five years now and thought it about time to get something new :)
Thanks,
Aaron

Since the hardware is several years old I don't see why it wouldn't be supported. I don't own the hardware so I can't guarantee you anything.
If this gives you any peace of mind: My $DAYJOB uses brand new ML350 servers on SuSE 10 (2.6.16 kernel), RHEL5 (2.6.18), and RHEL6 (2.6.32) and they work fine.

As a matter of interest, why do you want to run Fedora on it? Is it being used as a server?
I've been running CentOS-5.6 on a Proliant ML110 G5 for a couple of years, and it runs just fine. I also have Fedora-14 on it as a kind of security measure, and that runs fine too. Neither seems to have any problem with SATA disks.

I should have said that I have been running my Proliant M110 G5 server under CentOS for 2 years (in fact since 26 March 2009), and am currently running v5.5.
I have 6 laptops running Fedora-14, but I think it would be rather dangerous to run a server under Fedora, as there are usually a few problems when passing to a new Fedora version.
