Hi I'm using LG cd-roms GCR-8523B (Affected: firmware 1.00, OEM in custom-built computer. Firmware update available) and FC1 crashed it. It's is possible to fix it but it took some time.

Are you very sure Fedora crashed it? Because the kernel doesn't have the CD packet writing patches built into it...

Are you very sure Fedora crashed it? Because the kernel doesn't have the CD packet writing patches built into it...
Additionally that bug would destroy the drive firmware to the point that it had to be returned to the manufacturer for repair. The fact that the original poster could 'fix it' makes me believe this is completely unrelated.

LG has published an emergency procedure along with the updated firmware files to repair that damage, so I think you're conclusion is not valid anymore.
