Hello Folks,
I hope that you are well. Using yum to update firefox to the latest in F7. I see the following errors:
Setting up Update Process Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check --> Processing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.5 for package: devhelp --> Processing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.5 for package: yelp --> Processing Dependency: firefox = 2.0.0.5-1.fc7 for package: firefox-devel ---> Package firefox.i386 0:2.0.0.8-1.fc7 set to be updated --> Running transaction check ---> Package firefox-devel.i386 0:2.0.0.8-1.fc7 set to be updated --> Processing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.5 for package: devhelp --> Processing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.5 for package: yelp --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.5 is needed by package yelp Error: Missing Dependency: gecko-libs = 1.8.1.5 is needed by package devhelp
Has anyone seen this same problem where the above mentioned pkgs are missing from the repos ? Or is it just me ? Thanks.
Cheers, Aly.

Okay further to my woes, I did a yum clean all, it cleaned up everything, tried to do a yum update for firefox and I got zippo the hippo for updates for this now. I have yum update running now and its getting other things but not firefox, any thoughts ? Could I have simply hit a dog slow updating mirror ?
Cheers,
Aly.

Possibly. Note that the gecko-libs stuff comes from Firefox and will break a lot of dependencies. It's best to "yum --exclude=firefox* update" for now until all the packages that depend on gecko-libs get rebuilt.

After yum update and FF 2.0.0.8 got installed, it refused to start up; segfaulted. Rebooting solved the problem, and now FireFox works again (yes, 2.0.0.8 is working here on two F7 installs).

I asked because I updated via yum and I've seen no issues, at this time.... I haven't had to reboot or take any special actions.

In my experience after you update firefox it will, not start properly the first time. You start it but until you kill all the running firefoxes it will not open on the desktop. -- ======================================================================= There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet. -- Admiral William Halsey ======================================================================= Aaron Konstam telephone: (210) 656-0355 e-mail: akonstam@sbcglobal.net

It's doing a check to see whether your previous addons and plugins are compatible. Even if you haven't installed any, it comes with some extensions, itself. This can take some time for it to complete.

Just those 40-bazillion (plus or minus one or two) language packs that Fedora's Firefox always seems to come with on a new install. My first task after installing it is to run Firefox as root and remove all of those language packs., as I don't require any of them.

Is there a way to do that without having to log out, and then back in as root?
Greetings Beasrtooth,
This works for me....
#rm -rf /usr/lib/firefox

I have never really known if there is a difference between going through the gui and deleting the language packs or if I could just delete them directly from the commandline.
I just type this command into a terminal window:
su -c firefox
then enter my root password to run Firefox as root and delete them through the gui.
