I'm curious what bugs you are encountering. I use vlc all the time and the only significant bug I run into is the one where it skips the first few seconds of the first track on startup. I have encountered issues using vlc that I believe are in the libraries it uses as they tend to only appear with some media types and not others - typically these are things like memory leaking while a video is paused for a long time, or a video that - again after a long pause (hours) will resume the audio but not the video unless I tell it to skip backwards a few seconds. I have also encountered issues with controlling vlc using the DBUS MPRIS interface, but that might be issues in my code rather than vlc for all I know.
