Surely it being a USB device the system can find it? Is dmesg seeing it?
Just because the system finds it doesn't mean that the program recognizes it. And, BTW, his name is Fred, not Shirley.
I have the same issue with the HP Scanjet 8200. The scanner is seen by both simple scan and the aquire, but then they get a message that it can not open the scanner. Tried running some hp setup programs but no luck. I did find one message that was talking about Fedora 19, and it said to downgrade what I believe was a driver program to support scanners, but in doing a search in Fedora 20, it only had versions that were higher.
Think it was some version.20 that was suppose to work, but Fedora 20 have version.24, and I think version.22 was the oldest version I could find.
Nice scanner, but it just sits on a file cabinet, since it will not work with Fedora 20.
:)
