F10 Preview - single user mode, small glitch
by G.Wolfe Woodbury
GRUB command line parameter "S1" used to bring on single user mode
(according to my reporter) but things have changed (probably in the
kernel) so that "single" is required to get things right.
Me, I always used "S" or "single" from the first introduction of LILO
and GRUB, so this is a little confused sounding to me.
Can someone explain the details of the "S", "1", "3", "5" and "single"
kernel parameters behaviour?
AIUI, they are passed to "init" to set the initial state of the system,
and "single" is a synonym for "S" and that "S" and "1" are equivalent.

Preview not installable on Atom D945GCLF?
by Kasper Pedersen
I received two new D945GCLF (64 bit capable Atom+945 chipset) boards, so
the very first thing I attempted was F10-Preview-x86_64 using PXE.
The test versions can install from DVD and PXE. It hangs randomly, but
it installs.
The Preview 32 bit version hangs. The x86_64 version panics or hangs.
The checksum on the image is good, and my Core2 machine installs happily
from this image using either Marvell or Intel NICs.
Two boards with old and new bios versions, different known-good 1GB
modules, different power supplies.
http://n1.taur.dk/atomboot.txt (a handful of boot captures)
Question:
Does anyone have magical incantations to suggest before I attempt to
kludge up a bug report?
I did try disabling the Realtek nic.

fsck problem on updating to F10
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I updated my F9 to F10 from the Preview DVD, but on rebooting after
updatig I get a complaint about an fsck error and am then offered a
shell to fix it. Trouble is, I can' t figure out what the error is.
fsck from the shell shows no errors. Ditto fsck from the DVD in rescue
mode. /var/log/* has no lines containing 'fsck' .
I'm doing a yum update right now to see if it goes away, but any hints
would be welcome.

Re: amarok2 and ipod
by Gianluca Cecchi
Thanks Rex.
The fact is that I see no option to add/detect any sort of media device at all.
Under Settings -> Configure Amarok there are only: General,
Collection, Internet Services, Playback, On Screen display.
At http://amarok.kde.org/blog/archives/809-Missing-features-in-Amarok-2.html
I can only see something like:
Features that will likely return in Amarok 2:
...
USB mass storage devices support
that seems sort of ambiguous.... but doesn't promise any good things
I begin to fear that the same thing we saw for kde from 3->4 is true
for amarok itself from 1->2 , so that next months I'm going to use
another app to manage the ipod...
what a pity! Tried GtkPod but I don't like its interface...
uffa!

Slideshow background doesn't seem to be changing
by Rodd Clarkson
I'm not seeing any changes in my background using the solar slide show.
I had the same problem with the default slide show in f9, but the slide
show in f8 worked.
I even took a screen shot at 9ish last night, and then again at 8is this
morning and if I compare them I can't see any changes.
Is this broken for others, or has something gone weird on my machine.
I'm using gnome/compiz.

Single user mode
by A.J. Werkman`
When I boot rawhide in single user mode and log out of the shell, I
would expect either to re-enter a shell or shutdown the machine.
Instead I see the machine changing to runlevel 3.
Is this a bug or a feature??

Maybe I missed this, but after imaging my SD with the F10 Preview and
booting I'm being prompted to enter the password for the default
