rpmdb: Thread/process 21524/3086247616 failed: Thread died in Berkeley DB library
by Antonio Olivares
Dear fellow testers,
I tried to use xterm but it was not installed, so I wanted to yum install it, and I got message in the title.
[root@riohigh ~]# yum install xterm
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
rpmdb: Thread/process 21524/3086247616 failed: Thread died in Berkeley DB library
rpmdb: unable to allocate memory for mutex; resize mutex region
error: cannot open Name index using db3 - Cannot allocate memory (12)
rpmdb: unable to allocate memory for mutex; resize mutex region
error: cannot open Providename index using db3 - Cannot allocate memory (12)
rpmdb: Thread/process 21524/3086247616 failed: Thread died in Berkeley DB library
What does all of that mean?
Thanks,
Antonio

FC10 Preview , Partitioning problems
by Jim
Installing FC 10 Preview on a Dell Inspiron 8600, replacing FC8.
Doing a fresh install, making partitions with install disk.
Here is partitions table on a 80gig hard drive.
/dev/sda1 Dell utilities
/dev/sda2 ntfs Win Xp 15000
/dev/sda3 /boot ext3 305mb
/dev/sda4 Extended 60981mb
/dev/sda5 /home ext3 39903mb
/dev/sda6 / ext3 20002mb
/dev/sda7 swap 1074mb
When I goto write to disk, I get error messages; "Don't try to mount
/dev/sda5 an /dev/sda6 until computer is rebooted"
Then another error message for Swap: "A error occurred trying to
initialize SWAP on /dev/sda7, This problem is serious and install
cannot continue , Exit Installer"
And back to live Cd.
This install Cd passes test, and I have installed another Laptop with
it, but I never made a /boot partition on
the other Laptop.

ATI nomodeset hang on boot
by David L
I've been booting with the nomodeset option for several weeks
as a workaround for this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=461801
After I updated today, I can't get a graphical login unless I remove
nomodeset. The original bug is theoretically fixed, so I guess I
don't need nomodeset to work any more. But unless I remove
nomodeset, I get a frozen garbled screen instead of a
graphical login. I can ping the box and even ssh in, but X is
sucking 100% of the CPU. Even after telinit 3, it remains at the
frozen screen. I have to reboot to recover.
Thanks,
David

f9 kde conflicts - 3.5, 4.0, 4.1, blah, blah. blah f*&(*&ing blah
by Jerry Amundson
Not sure how I managed this one. CD install of f9, selected KDE, messy
updates due to selinux....
Why, why, why? Is it too much to ask for this to "just work"!???

I'm running Linux already, can I use livecd-tools livecd-iso-to-disk
script to copy this to a USB stick? Here's how I created the USB
image:
sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --overlay-size-mb 300 --home-size-mb 100 sugar-spin.iso /dev/sdb1
I did that and it boots to the login screen, I can start the login
session, but the session just fails and dumps me back to the login
screen.
I noticed that there was no /home/liveuser, so I when to tty2 and
created on manually:
su -
mkdir /home/liveuser
cd /etc/skel
cp -av . /home/liveuser
chown -R liveuser:liveuser /home/liveuser
restorecon -R /home/liveuser
But it still fails to login in the same way.
What am I missing?

XO: Xfce testing results
by Jon Stanley
So I just got my XO, and James Laska mentioned to me on IRC that we
were in need of a lead for the group working on Xfce. I'm willing to
take that role, and to that end, I composed a LiveCD using the
official Xfce LiveCD kickstart from today's rawhide.
After battling with the SD card (in a previous thread), Xfce boots and
runs acceptably on the XO. I need to know what sorts of things other
testers are looking at, though. Here's some initial observations:
Boots fine, however, text mode plymouth was all that I got (is this a
regression from preview??? I've heard reports that graphical plymouth
worked in preview)
On bootup and opening a Xfce terminal, 118-124MB of RAM taken (not
counting filesystem cache), no swap used.
Thunar works as expected.
Some fonts are cut off (particularly the time in the Xfce panel),
however, I understand that this is more of a general X problem than
anything Xfce specific, and there's a fix. Will we be integrating
this into the other hacky fix that we have for xorg at this point?
(using an xorg.conf if we're on a Geode? The fix for this is just
another setting in there)
Able to launch Firefox and browse the web.
I still need to distil all of this into a formal test plan and
results, and am interested in hearing what else I should test. I'm
truly amazed and very happy that Xfce Just Worked(TM) on the XO :)
