compat-libstdc++-33 still missing in my default install (all except KDE)
by David Bentley
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47 not installed by default
and therefore needs to be manually installed in order
to run realplayer 10 as in FC4.
Can we have this package installed by default in the
future to save this problem occuring again.
For info it doesn't get intalled either if you do a
yum groupinstall "Legacy Software Development" you
have to install it on it's own.

Keyboard Prefs
by mouse
I just installed fc5t1 and noticed that the keyboard layout options in
gnome-keyboard-properties has been nerfed a bit... Is that intentional
or is there a way to add them back?

FC5T1 resolution problems
by Linux Counter (li.counter.org) #386711
I'm trying to install FC5, and am thwarted quickly.
Firstly, in graphical mode, it displays ( on my 800x600 screen) only 800x600
pixels out of the 1024x768 it is giving. In other words, I'm only seeing
part of the picture, but it is not garbled.
I wouldn't be TOO mad about that, but whenever I try text-based install, it
completely goes black.
Any help?

Kismet compile problem
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Did a clean install of FC5T1 on a spare machine, clicking
everything except languages, database and some server stuff.
As with stock FC4, the ./configure in the Kismet source tree
does not see imagemagick and thus refuses to compile gpsmap.
Is there some reason Fedora does not install ImageMagick
components in the traditional location(s)???
In addition, gcc 4.02 gets a segment violation compiling
Kismet. Gcc32 seems okay.
This is with the current version of Kismet source downloaded
from kismetwireless.net

Add/Remove Applications Menu
by Mike Chambers
When clicking on this (this is pup?) I get an error that says..
"Installation Tree Not Found.
The path /media/cdrecorder does not look like a valid installation
source."
And then it dies and won't start. I am assuming I can put in a cd,
mount it, and then it probably work?

Some Experiences with FC5T1 Install
by Clyde E. Kunkel
Note: Install on a multiboot test system, separate boot partitions for
each distro.
1. Normal startup booting from cd 1.
2. To partition, used create custom layout. Anaconda did not see all of
the logical volumes nor all of the raid disks. Had to use a terminal
and re-create them. All had been in existence before the install.
3. Install failed when it decided that the logical volume mounted for
/home "probably" wasn't formated or some other error--reboot.
4. Reinstall repeating step 2 above, but didn't mount anything from the
logical volumes except for the ones originally seen.
5. Rest of install seemed normal.
Above in bug 174047.
6. Reboot showed a strange screen with double icons, and lots of junk.
7. xorg.conf showed the device driver as "vesa." Corrected to radeon,
restarted X and all was well.
Note: I have installed every FC Test since 1 and never has this
happened. Haven't filled a bug, but will. Where? Anaconda or X?
8. Selinux was activated even tho I explicitly unselected it during
install. Bug??
9. Yum update...dependencies not resolved due to libslang-utf8.so.1
being needed by multiple programs. Took some doing, but --excluding the
selinux items, etc., got system up-to-date.
10. Reboot to test and initrd barfed, couldn't find my root partition
which is on a LV. Rebooted with install kernel and initrd, forgot
Selinux was on. Rebooted with selinux=0, old kernel and then on to 11.
11. Shut off selinux, removed mkinitrd-5.0.11 (--nodeps), installed
mkinitrd-5.0.10 from install CD, recreated new initrd for the 1707
kernel, rebooted and all is well again. Have seen a similar problem
with mkinitrd and will update that bug (169059).
12. All in all, things are not bad and installed system looks nice.
Everything on this test box is on LVs, except the boot partitions, so
this will be a good test.
12. Good work all you dudes who made it possible.
13. Still testing and having fun between cooking the turkey, eating the
turkey, and visiting with family.

GDM not starting Gnome or KDE because of bash_completion
by Paul Dickson
I finally tracked down why I couldn't start Gnome from GDM, but I could
from startx. bash_completion was being initialized twice
by /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession. Once as ". /etc/profile" and again as ".
$HOME/.profile" which was doing a ". /etc/profile" also.
I placed an "echo" command before and after the .profile is referenced.
The first one is hit, but not the second.
This problem didn't hit me until I installed the modular X, so who do I
file the bug report against?

Rawhide info
by Linux Counter (li.counter.org) #386711
Call it a stupid question, but I don't know much about Rawhide.
I found a shell script online to get rawhide. Before I actually do it, I
wanted to know about how long it'll take on about a 1 mbps line. I don't
want to spend TOO long on this (like a week), so just an estimate would be
nice.

5T1 install problem: UrlInstallMethod instance has no attribute 'switchMedia'
by Andrew Parker
I'm trying an http install, but I'm having problems. As there is no
DVD ISO, I've copied the (root) contents of each iso into a single
directory. i.e., there is only one Fedora/RPMS directory and it has
all (1481) the rpms from each CD in it. Although not my method of
choice, this has worked in the past.
It gets as far as asking all the questions, formats the partitions,
resolves dependencies and just as its going to install, it dies. Now,
there's a nice new dialog box that allows you to save a dump of the
problem to floppy or a remote host. However, my floppy (USB) is not
recognised, and I can't get the remote to work - it doesn't tell you
what the transport is - NFS/FTP/sftp/scp/SAMBA/http - so I don't know
where to start with that.
Fortunately there appears to be a dump in
/mnt/sysimage/root/anacdump.txt. scp is functional, so I can get a
copy of it. Its somewhat large (403K) so I'll just quote the
exception. If anyone wants more, I can provide it.
Any ideas?
