What would the chances be of updatng perl-IO-Socket in EL-6?

recently grew a dependency on IO::Socket::IP and won't work without it
anymore. I'd like to not have to retire it in EL-6.
The dependency is perl(Socket), not perl(IO::Socket), and that's part
of the EL-6 base distribution. You could file an RFE for an upgrade in
Bugzilla but even if it was accepted, it'd be quite a while before it
appeared.
You might also consider asking IO-Socket-IP upstream why that
particular version is needed; it's possible that it could be for
something platform-specific to (say) Windows, which wouldn't affect
Linux, and you might then get away with patching that version
requirement down to what works on Linux.
