I recently migrated a server from RHEL4 to RHEL6 an now have a problem when I restart the amavisd inside a script via a cronjob. The output should be redirected to (a variable and then to) a file but it isn't:
/etc/init.d/amavisd restart 2>&1>> $TEXT
This means to redirect error output to descriptor of original standard output and append standard output to a file.
You have to reverse the redirects >>$TEXT 2>&1. See bash(1). Also you can write &>>$TEXT.
