As someone who admins such an LDAP setup I think the sooner the change
is made the better. (If it had been changed long ago then it wouldn't
have been a problem now.)
Personally I think UIDs and their relation to user accounts should be
treated as host-local. I also want a pony.
It would be nice, but then there is NFS ...
