You still had a chance if you didn't reboot. rpm still worked for me on
the second system I saw. Unfortunately on the first one, I assumed I lost a
fan and shut the machine down and then was pretty hosed as chroot wouldn't
work as my livecd's were too old and the minimum kernel level was a problem.
