As Nicholas says, all is not completely rosy in the 2D garden.
There are a number of other cards, where the situation is worse.
Short of running their binary driver, the Matrox parhelia is
a really expensive way to run the vesa driver for example.
(The mga driver doesn't support anything newer than g550 iirc).
