Is this for an integrity check? Wouldn't it be wise to use a CRC due to
its well-understood statistical properties?
I will defer to the crypto experts; from what I can see this is a relatively
new algorithm but there are quite a few papers (and a lot more blogs) which
reference it and it seems generally regarded to have good non-cryptographic
hash properties.
