I ran into the same problem recently (see post of mine on this list
last week). It turns out you may want to provide :
/usr/share/mime/packages/blender.xml
and
/usr/share/application-registry/blender.applications
That's apparently what Nautilus looks at, at least when it's in a good
mood.
You'll also need to call 'update-mime-database /usr/share/mime'.
