The thing about disk encryption, (And disk compression...) is CPUs are
way faster than the disk. Reading from disk is by definition IO bound,
most likely the CPU is just sitting around waiting for the data anyway,
resulting in no real-world impact on performance in typical desktop
usage. It just takes up CPU time that would have otherwise been spent
sitting idle. (Which may, however, result in increased power usage...)
