In that case, as someone said in the bug, they should probably just go
directly upstream. It does seem like a sensible way to do things,
though.
Now I remember. Quick update on this. These patches *almost* went into cairo
1.8, but were taken out at the release point by the benevolent
dictator^Wmaintainer. He had valid concerns. I'll try to address them and
have the feature added into cairo 1.10.
