Odd, always assumed that people who built their own kernel would hit
kernel.org up. I always thought that kernel-source package was for
building modules against your kernel such as with ndiswrapper and what
not.

I agree. Not having updated kernel-source isn't a big deal either, yet
people who like to build their own kernel entirely complained, and they were
right. ANd the package is for THEM.
