The problem with that view (which indeed was certainly my view and I fixed
some drivers) is that from "up" it can take 60 seconds to get gigabit
negotiation completed.
This definitely sucks from a UI point of view. We will need to provide
progress feedback to the user somehow. Probably autodetect "is this
gigabit", and if so, NetworkManager could pop up a dialog perhaps with a
cancel button. If you hit cancel it would fall back to wireless.
