This works nicely for me on a IBM Thinkpad T41 (even from within X) but
not so nice on my 12" Powerbook G4.
Seems to work fine on my IBM Thinkpad T42 as well. X was running, wireless (ipw2200),
etc. No USB devices were plugged in at the time.
