I do not see a drawback here, and definitely not a glaring one.
If you wanted a fresh release, then why didn't you install FC4 when
it was fresh? If you didn't want a fresh release, midlife release
is good and stable for you. The whole situation described above
only happens to procrastinators who wait until the EOL announcement
before updating.
Extending the life of FC4 by (a mere?) ~2 months, will give FC4

FC6 behaves, without leaving them open to security risks.
No. All it does is creating an illusion that you can jump two releases.
It does not work this way. You have to do one at a time.
