Lest you waste more time trying to install to the default
8G virt-manager provided disk image, with ultra confusing errors,
it seems you need about 16G:

So the install worked with the above but the boot hung
with systemd complaining it couldn't find /run.
The system booted fully after a quick workaround using:

Now I see the display has blanked can't be restored:
So looks like one needs to immediately:
settings -> privacy -> screen lock -> off
settings -> power -> screen blank -> never
