This definitely sucks from a UI point of view. We will need to provide
progress feedback to the user somehow. Probably autodetect "is this
gigabit", and if so, NetworkManager could pop up a dialog perhaps with a
cancel button. If you hit cancel it would fall back to wireless.
It would be really great if GE-hardware could just start in FE-mode
which is quick enough and negotiate GE in the background, starting
slower and increasing speed if possible. Unfortunately that train has
departed already...
