The thing I hate about that syntax is that it lets users do some
very-
possibly stupid stuff w/o having to think very hard.
What's the big deal? They can do:
rpm -i url:/to/the/rpm
Which they have to run as root anyway.
People would have an option to use either mothod, depending on
their confort level.
Making it a two step process at least makes them think a tiny bit
more
about the very-possibly stupid act their about to undertake.
Heh, they can do so many stupid things as root, this is just an
annoyance more then anything. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel
that strongly for it, but I'm not sure I buy the argument.
oh and for future reference: consistency with rpm's user
interface is
not and will not be a design goal of yum development. It may end up that
way, occasionally, but it's not going to be something that drives my
decisions.
I know you don't aim for consistency with rpm, but having it where it
doesn't hurt would be nice, no?
