I would not choose different icons, because I believe it's impossible
to draw a universally understood picture of an abstract concept. The
closest you can get to universally understood is an English word,
English being the most widely understood language in our time.

That's clearly not how you like it though. And if you would actually
accept such a change, then I'm sure you could make the change in like
1% of the time it would take me to get familiar with your code, set up
a test environment, and make a pull request.
As I also wrote:

That means I would choose either "options" or "settings" and use that
word consistently.
