PCMCIA cards should be detected properly in NetworkManager as long as
HAL detects them properly. You can search [0] the NetworkManager list
for previous discussion on this [1]. Otherwise if you know it's a
problem with HAL you could try the HAL Bugzilla [2].
The NM list doesn't have much on this (and mostly from me - I'm on the
list).
As far as I'm aware, the problem is that hal doesn't recognise the
capabilites of the PCMCIA card. It should have an entry something like:
info.cababilities string net.80211 net
but it doesn't list any info.capabilities.
I'm going to file this against HAL and see what happens.
