That's true (backtick and tilde require pressing that extra space), I just got
used to it (writing in French relatively often, I really need working accent
keys ;-) ). By the way, I was surprised at the tilde being a dead key at first
because the proprietary competition doesn't do that, but it makes sense because
it can be a diacritic (ñ mainly, but also on vowels in some languages).
