Right, but what happens if you accidentally delete some of the config files?
What happens if you reformat your disk, or an asteroid hits the earth ?
Why is it a problem to check the /proc/config.gz option when the
kernel
is built so the information can be extracted at any time from the running kernel?
Why waste space on data already in the .srpm ?
