It also seems like he's not running GNOME at all, so gedit would pull in
a lot of GNOME stuff that isn't already loaded. gedit should really
only be used by GNOME users. gedit's speed in this case would not
affect GTK emacs, since emacs would be _just_ a GTK program, and not
depend on all the GNOME stuff (like gnome-vfs) that gedit does.
