Adopting modem-manager-gui
by Artur Iwicki
I see that modem-manager-gui has been orphaned recently. I took a look at the package and didn't see any build failures, so this seems just a case of the packager dropping the pkg. I've managed to built it locally and have a scratch koji build, without any problems. As such, I'm willing to adopt the package.
Even though upstream seems to be no longer maintaining the software, it works okay (at least on my machine). I imagine a handful of people may find it useful.

mercurial CVEs - plan for f25 and f26 updates
by Neal Becker
CVE-2017-1000115:
Mercurial's symlink auditing was incomplete prior to 4.3, and could be
abused to write to files outside the repository.
CVE-2017-1000116:
Mercurial was not sanitizing hostnames passed to ssh, allowing shell
injection attacks by specifying a hostname starting with -oProxyCommand.
Currently we have:
hg thg
f25 3.8.1 3.8.3(f24)
f26 4.2 4.2.1
Mercurial upstream has provided fixed versions 4.3 and 4.2.3.
I propose that for f26 we update hg to 4.2.3, and together with thg 4.2.3
(currently latest is 4.2.2)
I propose for f25 to similarly update hg and thg to 4.2.3
Another package that requires mercurial and may be affected is hg-git.
Thoughts?

Drop Wireshark GTK+ GUI and use Qt version only
by Martin Sehnoutka
Hello,
there is a new version of Wireshark available in Fedora Rawhide (2.4.0)
and it comes with both Qt and GTK+ GUI. Nonetheless the upstream
developers do not support GTK version any more.
https://www.wireshark.org/docs/relnotes/wireshark-2.4.0.html
I think it's time to drop it and use Wireshark Qt version only, because
it is the only GUI supported by upstream. What do you think, do you have
any objections?
Best regards,

Re: sos's builds started to fail in Fedora rawhide
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi, just seen that sos package is starting to fail on rawhide with
following error:
Executing command: ['bash', '--login', '-c', '/usr/bin/rpmbuild -bb
--target noarch --nodeps /builddir/build/SPECS/sos.spec'] with env
{'PS1': '<mock-chroot> \\s-\\v\\$ ', 'SHELL': '/bin/bash', 'HOME':
'/builddir', 'PATH': '/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin', 'TERM': 'vt100',
'LANG': 'en_US.UTF-8', 'PROMPT_COMMAND': 'printf
"\\033]0;<mock-chroot>\\007"', 'HOSTNAME': 'mock'} and shell False
py3_install: invalid option -- '-'
error: Unknown option - in py3_install()
error: line 35: %py3_install '--install-scripts=%{_sbindir}'
Is something changed in python macros?

Fwd: Heads-up on rpm 4.14 coming to rawhide, incl. soname bump
by Panu Matilainen
Resending to devel@, some mishap in earlier...
-------- Forwarded Message --------
Subject: Heads-up on rpm 4.14 coming to rawhide, incl. soname bump
Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2017 20:50:30 +0300
From: Panu Matilainen <pmatilai(a)redhat.com>
To: devel-announce(a)lists.fedoraproject.org, Development discussions
related to Fedora <devel(a)lists.fedoraproject.org>
Rpm 4.14 alpha is about to hit rawhide as per
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/RPM-4.14. I realize we're a bit
late to the schedule, and much much later in the cycle than I'd like,
but lets try to get by. There's a soname bump involved so related
packages will need to be rebuilt, but Igor Gnatenko kindly promised to
take care of that.
From packagers POV, one of the bigger changes - debuginfo overhaul -
has been backported to 4.13 in rawhide for a while now, so there
shouldn't be any surprises on that front.
The other thing is the rpm macro engine which has seen by far its
biggest in the last 10+ years:
- Macro scoping is simplified, only macros %define'd inside parametric
macros are local, everything else is in global scope. This isn't as big
a change as is it may sound, because this is the way scoping only ever
really worked in previous versions.
- %{lua:} macros are scoped similarly to everything else. Previously
they could appear to be higher in the callchain than they are, causing
strange side-effects in already hard to debug complex macro constructs.
- Visibility is enforced per scope for automatic macros (ie %* %1 etc
that are created for parametric macros). In other words, nested macro
"calls" are more reliable as arguments from previous calls are not visible.
- Arguments to parametric macros are now expanded before execution.
- Arguments to parametric macros now support quoting (single and double)
For the average trivial macro usage, none of that will make a
difference. But I'd be almost shocked if nothing at all broke because of
this - former limitations and bugs might have necessiated tricks and
kludges that no longer work but also are not required any more etc. So
owners of complex macros, keep your eyes open.
Other than that, there are fairly massive changes to package reading and
signature checking, signal handling and whatnot, but they're mostly
under the hood. For details see http://rpm.org/wiki/Releases/4.14.0 (WIP
as of now).
As usual, we'll be baby-sitting it closely for the first days and weeks
and try to resolve any issues ASAP, whether it's a bug in rpm or macros
needing updating to work with the new rules etc. Thank you for your
patience and understanding.
On behalf of the rpm-team,
- Panu -

FESCo elections are cancelled as list of nominees needs to be amended
by Jan Kurik
Fedora community,
I need to inform you that currently running elections to FESCo needs
to be cancelled. As reported on Council ticket #131 [1], one of the
nominees to FESCo has already granted FESCo seat till end of the F27
period. As such his nomination for the current Elections needs to be
cancelled and subsequently we need to cancel the whole voting and run
it once more.
I would like to ask members of Fedora community to vote once more
starting on Tuesday 2017-Aug-15 00:00:00 UTC. The new voting period
will stop on 2017-Aug-21 at 23:59:00 UTC. The setup of the Voting
machine for the new voting period is currently in progress.
I will send an announcement at the beginning of the new voting period
to inform people the voting has started.
I am really sorry for this issue and I hope the result of the FESCo
elections will not be affected by this issue.

pagure-over-dist-git: traceback in receive-hook when pushing to new repo
by Fabio Valentini
I've just pushed an import commit to my first repository that was created
with fedrepo_req on pagure, and I got the following traceback from the
remote when it obviously failed to run a post-receive hook:
remote: Traceback (most recent call last):
remote: File "./hooks/post-receive.default", line 19, in <module>
remote: import pagure # noqa: E402
remote: File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/pagure/__init__.py", line

remote: APP.config.from_envvar('PAGURE_CONFIG')
remote: File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/flask/config.py", line
108, in from_envvar
remote: return self.from_pyfile(rv, silent=silent)
remote: File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/flask/config.py", line
128, in from_pyfile
remote: with open(filename) as config_file:
remote: IOError: [Errno 13] Unable to load configuration file (Permission
denied): '/etc/pagure/pagure.cfg'
remote: Hook ./hooks/post-receive.default failed with error code 1
My commit shows up fine in the web GUI.
Should I be worried about this? Is anybody else seeing this error?

koji-1.13 cannot be resolved as a dependency in f25
by Chenxiong Qi
Hi,
I found this issue when installing fedpkg in either f25 container or
VM. There are two koji versions in f25 repos, following steps run in a
f25 container
[root@e151b05870c7 pkgs]# dnf repoquery koji
Last metadata expiration check: 0:01:39 ago on Sat Aug 12 02:25:14 2017.
koji-0:1.10.1-13.fc25.noarch
koji-0:1.13.0-2.fc25.noarch
and koji-1.13 is listed by resolving the dependencies
[root@e151b05870c7 pkgs]# dnf repoquery --requires --resolve fedpkg

fedora-cert-0:0.6.0.1-1.fc25.noarch
koji-0:1.13.0-2.fc25.noarch
packagedb-cli-0:2.14.1-1.fc25.noarch

python2-fedora-0:0.9.0-6.fc25.noarch

python2-rpkg-0:1.49-6.fc25.noarch
redhat-rpm-config-0:45-1.fc25.noarch
The problem is, when start to install fedpkg, koji-1.10 is resolved
rather than version 1.13
[root@e151b05870c7 pkgs]# dnf install fedpkg
Last metadata expiration check: 0:10:38 ago on Sat Aug 12 02:25:14 2017.
Dependencies resolved.

This problem does not affect fedpkg but also other packages, e.g.
bodhi-client and packagedb-cli, that has "Requires: koji" in SPEC
file. I created a fake package with only koji in Requires, this
problem can also be reproduced with it.
