http://www.s.com as start page in firefox?
by Horst H. von Brand
I saw some comments on this here, and finally reported it as
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=435338>. This shows for me
even if I move .mozilla out of the way.
What annoys me most is that I can't set the start page to anything
sensible.
Is anybody else seeing this same problem, or am I alone in this?
Any clues on what could be happening?
Thanks!

dist-f8-updates-candidate ppc64 buildroot broken for coreutils
by Mamoru Tasaka
Hello.
For now all builds on koji for dist-f8-updates-candidate are failing
on ppc64 due to unresolvable dependency for coreutils like:
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: /sbin/runuser is needed by package initscripts
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: fileutils is needed by package udev
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: coreutils is needed by package initscripts
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: coreutils is needed by package rpm
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: coreutils is needed by package pam
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: sh-utils is needed by package module-init-tools
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: coreutils is needed by package util-linux-ng
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: coreutils is needed by package rsyslog
DEBUG util.py:261: Error: Missing Dependency: coreutils >= 5.92 is needed by package logrotate
For example:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=496557
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=496645
The relevant package seems coreutils-6.9-14.fc8 and it seems coreutils
package for ppc64 is missing. Note that this is now tagged as
dist-f8-updates.

do you use desktop metasearch ?
by Valent Turkovic
Do you use desktop metasearch on your Fedora desktop? And if you do
which? I used beagle, but don't use it recently... I have found out
about pinot [1] and it looks great but I haven't actually used it more
than 10 minutes.
Do you use some other tool? Why? What benefit do you get from using
the tool of your desktop search?
Thank you,
Valent.

Well, after this?
kdelibs-4.0.2-3.fc9.i386.rpm 29-Feb-2008 19:10 11M RPM Package
kdelibs-4.0.2-5.fc9.i386.rpm 06-Mar-2008 05:34 266M RPM Package
Is this size change expected?

Adding smartmontools-config to comps
by Tomáš Smetana
Hi,
I'm about to add smartmontools-config package to the comps file so it gets
installed by default. The smartmontools package has been split because of too
many dependencies the python configuration script dragged in. I know I should
have done this a long time ago.
Any objections?

upstart creates livecd install issues and is installed by default
by Orion Poplawski
Just tried to do a livecd install and got:
Error creating Live CD : Unable to install: [('file /sbin/halt conflicts
between attempted installs of sysvinit-2.86-22.i386 and
upstart-0.3.9-9.fc9.i386', (6, '/sbin/halt', 0L)),
......
Looks like redhat-lsb requires things like /sbin/shutdown which are
provided by both sysvinit and upstart. Since upstart is "shorter" I
believe it wins these.
Not sure how yum should be told that sysvinit is the preferred package
to satisfy these dependencies.
(Or perhaps the problem is something completely different, I'm no expert
here).
My anaconda install didn't complain, but installed upstart by default
instead of sysvinit - not sure that this is expected.

upstart testers wanted!
by Bill Nottingham
Before we put upstart into the main tree for the feature freeze, we want
to make sure we have all the big bugs worked out. If you're interested in
helping out, read on!
To start, just grab the repo file at
http://notting.fedorapeople.org/upstart/upstart.repo
and do an upgrade (or 'yum install upstart event-compat-sysv')
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
-----------------------
Confirmation that the system boots and runs more or less as expected.
CAVEATS
-------
If you're using SELinux, make sure you're running the latest rawhide
policy, as well as an initramfs made with the latest rawhide mkinitrd.
This is because upstart does not load policy directly - it relies on
policy being loaded from initramfs.
Please file bugs against the proper components in bugzilla; if you
want to see known issues, take a look at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/showdependencytree.cgi?id=431106&hide_resolved=1
