Updating selinux-policy-targeted Causes SELinux Denials
by Richi Plana
Hi,
Should I be concerned that every time an update to
selinux-policy-targeted occurs, it causes actions that the current
running SELinux seems to prevent? I'm talking about SELinux
preventing /usr/sbin/semodule (semanage_t) and /sbin/restorecon
(restorecon_t) "write"ing to a pipe with label "rpm_t".
Are these actions legal? And does SELinux preventing them cause an error
in the actual install? Or should these just be treated as warnings?
I'm guessing that the selinux applications are just trying to
communicate back to the RPM process. I'm wondering if there's anything
important in that communication that should be allowed, or if not, there
must be some way to clean this up.
(If this isn't the right place to ask, could someone redirect me to the
correct one?)

Fedora 8 Test3 and problem with updates
by Marcin Zajączkowski
Hi,
Yesterday I installed Fedora 7.92 (i386) and the installation process
finished quite fast and without visible problems. There were almost 300
updates available so I started to do it in groups.
After about 100 updates and a few restarts something ate the Infinity
theme for gdm, which was set by default in t3. Login screen doesn't look
very nice, but I'm still able to login.
Was it intended to removed that theme?
In a meantime yum configuration started points to "normal" repository
(not development).
Later I wanted to update packages started with "f" (yum update f*), but
after downloading several packages installation process failed. I
separated problematic package - fedora-gnome-theme. The problem looks like:

I was able to update metacity, but had problem with some other package -
redhat-artwork seemed to has the same files as some fedora package.
Could it be conflict between packages installed from development
repository and those from "normal" fedora repository (after yum
configuration switch)?

Plan for tomorrows (20071108) FESCO meeting
by Brian Pepple
Hi,
Please find below the list of topics that are likely to come up in the
next FESCo meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday at 17:00 UTC
in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.org:
/topic Misc - Feature Process -
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2007-November/msg00003.... - poelcat
/topic FESCo meeting -- Free discussion around Fedora
You want something to be discussed? Send a note to the list in reply to
this mail and I'll add it to the schedule (I can't promise we will get
to it tomorrow, but we'll most likely will if we don't run out of time).
You can also propose topics in the meeting while it is in the "Free
discussion around Fedora" phase.
If your name/nick is on above list please update the status on the
Extras schedule pages in the wiki ahead of the meeting. That way all the
other FESCo members and interested contributors know what up ahead of
the meeting. And we will avoid long delays in the meeting -- those often
arise if someone describes the recent happenings on a topic directly in
the meeting while all the others have to wait for his slow typing...
Thanks,
/B

Call for developers! It's Func! Systems management is fun again!
by Michael DeHaan
Hey folks!
I sent this out to fedora-list, but this is really just as much a
developer topic. Several us have been working on a neat network
application called Func lately, which is part of Fedora hosted projects ...
https://hosted.fedoraproject.org/projects/func
Func is basically a remote RPC system with integrated secure certificate
exchange, all massively pluggable in python. It comes with a lot of
modules useful for control of remote systems, you can easily script
communications to multiple machines, and easily write new modules on
both the client side and the server side. Whether this means running
remote commands, querying hardware inventory, or controlling a bunch of
robots or LED signs -- we really intend this to be a generic and crazy
simple thing to use. The Wiki helps explain this in a lot of detail.
Func comes with some neat scripts that integrate with lots of Fedora
tools -- like Smolt (find all my laptops with exploding batteries),
Nagios (query lots of plugins remotely without even having to have
nagios installed), and so on. There's also a shiny inventory app that
tracks changes to all of your systems using git... written in /just/ 200
lines of Python. Hopefully that demonstrates how powerful the Func
API can be.
Anyhow, we'd really like all of you (especially Sysadmin, Python, or
network programming types) to get involved. Also, if you are writing a
new Fedora app that needs remote communications capability, you can use
func to establish a PKI infrastructure. It's already in Fedora and
EPEL alike.
Contribute new modules, hack on the core, or share some interesting
scripts you have to automate all of your Fedora and Enterprise Linux
machines. If this sounds like something you are interested in, check
out the Wiki (https://hosted.fedoraproject.org/projects/func), join the
mailing list, and stop by #func on irc.freenode.net -- your questions,
ideas, and of course code are always welcome!

desktop file handling question
by Neal Becker
I just updated kdiff3 from upstream. It has added:
%{_datadir}/applnk/.hidden/kdiff3plugin.desktop
I just added this to %files. I'm guessing it doesn't need special handling,
like desktop-file-install?

Mesa license issue?
by Callum Lerwick
Okay, so there's a Second Life bug open pointing out what appears to be
a license problem with some OpenGL headers:
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2881
There is indeed a bunch of headers with "SGI Free Software License B"
boilerplate in them:
$ grep -l "SGI Free" /usr/include/GL/*
/usr/include/GL/glext.h
/usr/include/GL/glu.h
/usr/include/GL/glxext.h
/usr/include/GL/glxmd.h
/usr/include/GL/glxproto.h
/usr/include/GL/glxtokens.h
$ grep -l "SGI Free" /usr/include/GL/* |xargs rpm -qf|sort|uniq
mesa-libGL-devel-6.5.2-13.fc7.i386
mesa-libGL-devel-6.5.2-13.fc7.x86_64
mesa-libGLU-devel-6.5.2-13.fc7.i386
mesa-libGLU-devel-6.5.2-13.fc7.x86_64
xorg-x11-proto-devel-7.2-9.fc7.x86_64
The devel packages say they're all MIT license:
$ grep -l "SGI Free" /usr/include/GL/* |xargs rpm -qfi|grep License|
sort|uniq
Size : 1393741 License: MIT
Size : 82501 License: MIT
Size : 872295 License: MIT
"SGI Free Software License B" is explicitly not acceptable in Fedora:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing#head-d8cc605dd386091c8b6be97b8a43...
I've googled up and down and I haven't found an explanation as to what
is going on. Mesa's merge review is untouched:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=226136
Is there a reason these files don't fall under the SGI license? There's
a provision for "an alternative license" but I'm not even going to
pretend to understand the mechanics. If so, could the headers be
clarified, and an explanation made in Mesa's review? And a reply made
here? And Mesa's home page fixed? ;P
http://www.mesa3d.org/license.html
GLEW apparently had the same problem, fixed by taking headers from Mesa,
so I'm very confused as to what is going on:
