gaim FC6 needs testing
by Warren Togami
http://people.redhat.com/wtogami/temp/gaim/
Please help me to test this latest build of libsilc and gaim which
should theoretically multilib conflicts (and some transparent panel
patch added by mclasen.)
Err... I'm not sure if it does fix the multilib conflicts.
I especially need to know if gaim plugin packages build properly against
this new gaim-devel and libsilc-devel. Please test rebuilds of gaim-*
plugins in Extras and test those binaries.
Thanks,
Warren Togami

I followed your instructions to the letter. The problem is when I adjust
date and time, the time is correct there. The time on the panel is 5 hours
into the future. When I run date from the terminal the time is correct.

traceroute: new implementation is ready
by Dmitry Butskoy
((Was:
FC5 was shipped with some alternate traceroute implementation, which
allows using without "setuid root". Unfortunately, it does not support
"traceroute -I": i.e. trace using ICMP ECHO instead of UDP datagrams.
But icmp trace support is actually required by production environments.
))
I was very angry. But I've decided to direct the anger to a constructive
channel. :)
I've written the new traceroute implementation from the scratch.
* Besides ICMP, the TCP support added too (like in "tcptraceroute")
* All udp/icmp/tcp methods work for both IPv4/IPv6
* The code is focused to be scalable for future features
The discussion and first testers' results are in the bottom of bugzilla
ticket #176587 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=176587>
SRPM is here:
http://dmitry.butskoy.name/traceroute/traceroute-1.9.3-1.src.rpm
Certainly, who is capable, please, test it.
Some questions:
- Where is the best place to continue discussion/tester results etc.?
Just here, in bugzilla or some wiki page? Note, that this implementation
is focused to Linux/Fedora, and was developed in hoping to be a good
replacement for FC6 (or a first update for FC6 :) )
- How it should be named? Maybe "traceroute2" ? (I plan the final
version will be 2.0 ...)
- Where it should be hosted? (SourceForge?)
- While I am warmed up and have some free time: What additional
features can be added to this implementation?

Dmitry Butskoy

Re: rawhide report: 20061004 changes

I notice on several mirrors that ppc/os/ is missing the etc/ and images/
directories.
They were there in yesterday's build. Are there plans to add them in later
today?

gtk2 2.10.4 i386 package with i686 folder name
by Vnpenguin
Hi all,
In devel repo, I see package gtk2-2.10.4-4.fc6.i386.rpm. The content
of this package:
/etc/gtk-2.0
/etc/gtk-2.0/i686-redhat-linux-gnu
/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-32
/usr/bin/gtk-demo
/usr/bin/gtk-query-immodules-2.0-32
/usr/bin/gtk-update-icon-cache
/usr/bin/update-gdk-pixbuf-loaders
/usr/bin/update-gtk-immodules
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0
...
My question: why there is "/etc/gtk-2.0/i686-redhat-linux-gnu" here
instead of "/etc/gtk-2.0/i386-redhat-linux-gnu" like previous release
?
Thanks,

Severe RPM bug, causing file removel, FC-6 showstopper?
by Hans de Goede
Hi,
A couple of days ago someone posted that when removing i386 versions of
packages of which he had both an x86_64 and i386 version, caused doc
files and po files to be removed, evne though the x86_64 version was
still installed, so I expected to find something about this in BZ, but
found nothing.
I just saw rpm remove files owned by multiple package versions when only
one version gets removed :( This is really bad IMHO.
Here is what happened:
1) I did yum -y update
2) It took long and I needed my computer for something else, so I did
CTRL-C while it was updating
3) Thus it had 2 versions of fedora-release-notes installed, as it never
got to the cleanup part
4) I fixed this with "rpm -e fedora-release-notes-5.92-5" (the old ver)
5) When I started firefox it said it couldn't find:
/usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html
I filed this in BZ as:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=209306
Regards,
Hans
