cpu scaling questions
by Thomas J. Baker
I've got two questions related to cpu scaling. On my laptop I've got a
Core 2 Duo. Can the two cores scale frequencies independently? Most of
the time that doesn't seem like the case but every once in a while, my
cpufreq applets show different speeds. I'm assuming that there is just a
bit of slop involved and the two cores are always the same speed.
On my desktop, I've got Xeon CPUs that support limited scaling; they run
at either 2.8 or 3.4GHz. On FC5, they used to scale on demand but under
FC6 they don't and the cpufreq applet has a manual setting for 2.8 or
3.4 with an automatic setting that is greyed out.
Thanks,
tjb

rpmbuild with target i386 on x86_64 sets %{_libdir} to lib64.
by Rob Andrews
Hi,
Since I don't have an i386 installation of Fedora, I am trying to build a
set of i386 RPMs on my x86_64 machine using:
rpmbuild --target=i386 --rebuild foo.src.rpm
or
rpmbuild --target=i386 -bb foo.spec
However, it is expanding %{_libdir} to /usr/lib64.
Am I doing something wrong? I'm tempted to use --define="_libdir /usr/lib"
for a quick fix, but I was under the impression that building i386 packages
would have adjusted the path definitions accordingly.
Thanks,
rob.

Xfce 4.4 call for testing
by Kevin Fenzi
Myself and Christoph (The xfce plugins maintainer for extras) have been
building and testing Xfce4.4rc1 since it's release (and the betas before it).
Things are looking all good with our limited testing now.
I think we have addressed everything such as:
- Some plugins are no longer available in 4.4 as their functionality
has been pulled into core Xfce packages, so we have added the required
Obsoletes/Provides to allow smooth upgrades with those installed.
- Some packages have changed name (xfcalendar is now orage, etc), and
they should be handled correctly.
- Lots of cleanups of the packages.
So, We would like to invite folks to do some more testing on the
packages. If you have never used Xfce, you might take this as a fine
chance to take a look at it. It's a lovely quick desktop env.
In particular I would like to hear from people who already have
the 4.3.2 packages installed and upgrade to the 4.4 packages.
I'm not sure if we are going to try and push things in this week before
fc6 is released, or wait until after fc6 and push them into devel
and then push them into fc6 later. Thoughts on that would be welcome.
For your /etc/yum.repos.d/xfce44.repo file:
--cut--
[xfce44beta]
name=Xfce 4.4 rc1
baseurl=http://www.scrye.com/xfce-4.4rc1/development/RPMS
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
--cut--
Thanks for any feedback and testing you can provide!

startx shows black screen with cursor
by Jason Dravet
I did a yum update to today's rawhide and now X no longer functions
correctly. I looked through the daily rawhide reports since my last update
(Tuesday) and my guess is xorg-x11-server-1.1.1-44.fc6 is what broke. X
starts but no panel, icons, or background show up. A black screen with a
cursor is the only thing I can see. The cursor and mouse work fine. A
ctrl-alt-backspace is the only way to shut x down.
I have a Number Nine Revolution IV video card and a SGI 1600sw monitor.
Everything was working before the update.
Thanks,
Jason

Mac support in FC6
by Peter Robinson
Hi All,
Just wondering what the state of the support for the intel macs will
be for FC6. In particular will it support booting straight from the
EFI or will it require the use of bootcamp. If its the later do you
still need to have MacOSX installed? In particular I want to use a
MacMini for a Fedora server for serving a website/mail etc.
Cheers,
Pete

kernel-devel-2.6.18-1.2741.fc6 missing linux/config.h
by Caerie Houchins
I was attempting to build some drivers against the new kernel-devel for
2.6.18-1.2741 and kept getting complaints that linux/config.h was missing.
I did some package file checking and it looks like it was missed in this
particular rpm build as you can see it was in the 2726 package. Do we
generally bugzilla files missed in packaging?
# rpm -q --filesbypkg kernel-devel |grep -P \/config\.h$
