Reminder: REVIEWED keyword at bugzilla.fedora.us
by Michael Schwendt
I've noticed that some people started reviewing eachother's packages in
order to get productive. Please note that you can set the REVIEWED
bugzilla keyword to mark tickets, which have got one review, and also
query bugzilla for other tickets with that keyword. Short link here:
http://tinyurl.com/4tdu8
With that system it's easier to meet the publish criteria.
http://www.fedora.us/wiki/PackageSubmissionQAPolicy#review
I've also seen some Fedora Legacy people using the keyword, too, so
checking out those tickets, if you want to help Fedora Legacy, could be
worthwhile. Fedora Legacy uses a separate "Product" in bugzilla, choose
"Fedora Legacy" when querying the database.

The DRBL project (Wsa Re: "Stateless Linux" project)
by Steven Shiau
Hi... We run a project called DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot in Linux) . The
website is
http://drbl.nchc.org.tw (Traditional Chinese)
and
http://drbl.sf.net (English).
Maybe someone can have a look at that, some part of DRBL are similar to
this Stateless Linux project.
DRBL runs well on RedHat, Fedora, Mandrake and Debian.
In Taiwan, more than 100 sites already downloaded and run DRBL, some of
them are schools (Primary/High school/University), some of them are NPO
and buisness companies.
check this:
http://drbl.nchc.org.tw/sites/98_DRBL%A8%CF%A5%CE%AA%CC%A4%C0%A7G/DRBL%A8...
Also, there is a program comes with DRBL called "Clonezilla". It can let
people to massively clone the system image to the harddisk of client
computers. The function of clonezilla is quite similar to the Symantec
Ghost Corporate Edition®. For more information about clonezilla, check this:
http://clonezilla.sf.net (English)
and
http://drbl.nchc.org.tw/clonezilla.php (Traditional Chinese)

RFC: extra kernel module install locations
by Ville Skyttä
There are various practices around about where to install extra kernel
modules, I thought I'd throw in a quick RFC about what people think is
the best practice, and why. Some alternatives off the cuff:
0) Somewhere directly below /lib/modules/$uname, in a per-package
subdir.
1) A suitable location below /lib/modules/$uname/kernel.
2) /lib/modules/$uname/updates, mirroring the dir structure from
/lib/modules/$uname/kernel as applicable.
3) Same as 2), but s/updates/$something_else_than_updates/.
4) As long as it Just Works(tm), does not matter.
5) Insert your favourite here.
Status of how things seem to be "out there" currently, based on a very
brief look:
- fedora.us: both 0 (for thinkpad) and 1 (for alsa)
- livna.org, Dag, freshrpms (FC1/alsa only checked): 1
- ATrpms: 2
- CCRMA uses something that doesn't fit 100% any of the above,
but I guess 2 would be the closest.
My .02€ of the above:
0) Yuck, gets messy.
1) IMO shouldn't use "kernel" for stuff that is not included in kernel
distributed by the kernel vendor.
2) My #1 pick as of now, maybe, depending on 3) below.
3) Is this better or worse than 2)? Dunno.
Is "updates" the only dir that Just Works in earlier distro versions?
Is using "updates" more or less likely to cause conflicts
than "extra" or something else? Is it a bad thing to put all these
extra modules to "updates", when the vast majority of them are not
updates per se, but "new" modules instead (in the sense that they're
not included in the vendor's kernel)?
4) I would feel more comfortable with some kind of documented guidelines
or best practices, for consistency.
Comments?

Re: "Stateless Linux" project
by Daniel Bradley
Hi,
This seems similar in concept to what I have been working
on for a while under the guise of Securizant Linux
(sourceforge.net/projects/securizant).
An adaption of LFS, but a root file system disk image is
built, which is then mounted (via loopback) read-only
during the boot process. This image is never modified
during the life-cycle of the OS.
There are scripts that will build the system currently in
the sourceforge CVS that you may care to look at. They
make use of a precompiled tools.iso toolchain image
(500MB) that I can make available if you want.
Feel free to email me for more info.
Cheers,
Daniel Bradley.

I certainly will file bugs when stuff is broken...
* What other projects have you worked on in the past?
Lots of ACPI and irq-related kernel work, submitted bugs against
RH/Mozilla etc. in the past too. Doing network profiling, lately, and
finding it sure would be nice if Fedora came with all the stuff I use.

vsftpd.conf
by James Harrison
Hi all,
Im not sure is this is a security hole, but I have Ferdora Core 2 loaded on my
machine and the vsftpd.conf shows: anonymous_enable=YES
If its Very Secure then surely anonymous_enable=NO allowing only local users
to connect.
