Onboard S3 Prosavage KM133
by Chadley Wilson
Hello to all
MSi P4NAM mainboard
S3 ProSavage onboard VGA using the km133 driver.
This driver appears to probe the monitor incorrectly, causing the
monitor to switch off (orange light), I tried using the vesa drivers as
a substitute but the whole system becomes unstable, I had the same
experience with RH9 ( Strange!;-/ )
In mandrake9.2 the driver has no issues.
Where can I get source code for the driver, I will try and compile my
own.
Here are the chip-set specs

Just grab the XFree86 src.rpm from Fedora or Rawhide.
Oh, XFree86 is a beast, you have been warned ;)

RPM problem with 2.6 again
by Behdad Esfahbod
Hi,
I'm running 2.6 for a couple of days now. Everything's fine.
Thanks to all kernel hackers here.
Since a few (couple?) days ago RPM used to drop a warning about
something I cannot remember for everything I did calling rpm. I
decided to do rpm --rebuilddb with the hope that the warning
disappears. I wish to confirm that 'rpm --rebuilddb' compeleted
successfully but I have lost all my package information, ie. 'rpm
-q kernel' says kernel is not installed. Same for every other
thing.
Here is the contents of /var/lib/rpm, which from the sizes I
assume the data is still there:
[root@mces root]# ll /var/lib/rpm/
total 7288

PS. Just to not make more noise on list: What about putting a
cron job to do build-locale-archive? Of course it can check if
there's any new locale definition or not.
One more thing that a bugzilla entry is an overkill for: In
latest kernel-utils package /etc/cpuspeed.conf and
/etc/readahead.files are marked executable.

Self-Introduction: Antonio Buiza
by Antonio Buiza Calero
Full legal name: Antonio Buiza Calero
Country, City: Spain, Sevilla
Profession or student status: System administrator, developer, last year
telecom. engineering student
Company or School: Sevilla University - Engineering School
Goals:
- Which packages do you want to see published?
As a KDE fan i would like to help improving the cuality and amount of
applications available in Fedora Core. I've packaged some applications from
appsy (now kde-apps.org) for personal use and i would like to contribute with
them to the project and also with KDE themes & styles.
Also interested on engineering and scientific apps.
- Do you want to do QA?
Of course, anything i could help with.
- Anything else special?
I wish to help making Fedora the best linux distribution available, not only
with great software and technology (we already have it) but also with a good
philosophy background, just the way Debian's community feels about itself.
Historical qualifications:
- What other projects have you worked on in the past?
Mainly reporting bugs in KDE, translating docs in LuCAS (Hispalinux) project,
writing documentation, and most of all working with Adala (an association for
free sofware spreading in southern Spain) in events like GUAD3C, JASL,
national free software conferences...
- What computer languages and other skills do you know?
I usually develop applications using C and C++, mainly based in qt/KDE
libraries. Also have good skills in Bash, Perl, PHP, Java and Pascal. Some
knowledges in assembler for x86 and Motorola.
Text formatting in HTML, XHTML, XML-DocBook and LaTeX.
I'm very interested in kernel hacking... basic skills at the moment :)
I work as system administrator of several Debian, Red Hat and FreeBSD server
at school, database and networking programmer, windows-linux integration and
some other stuff.
- Why should we trust you? <--- too blunt? -> sure!
I don't have high qualifications, but i'm young and i wish to learn as much as
i could with this great developers team. Don't hope you trust me, but i'll
work hard to get your confidence.
Something more? I love free software :)

Seth or other comps.xml folks,
Can someone give me a succinct explanation of the basearchonly

Installing Fedora/RH9 network with s3 graphics
by Chadley Wilson
Network install,
I boot from cdrom and I need to pass the "linux askmethod" only then
the xfree86 probes the card s3 and the monitor crashes, so how can you
pass linux lowres and linux askmethod at the same time?
I have sorted the crashing out by edit the XFree86 config by adding
Option "UseBIOS" "no" to the Device section
Is there a way to do both.
