New package fedora-logos
Red Hat-related icons and pictures.
New package openoffice.org
OpenOffice.org comprehensive office suite.
New package redhat-config-netboot
redhat-config-netboot is an network booting/install configuration utility
Updated Packages:
XFree86-4.3.0-37
----------------
* Mon Oct 06 2003 Mike A. Harris <mharris(a)redhat.com> 4.3.0-37
- Added XFree86-4.3.0-radeon-autodetect-pci-or-agp-cards.patch which is a
backport from CVS of new code to autodetect wether a given card is AGP or
PCI by reading PCI config space. This simplifies future updates to the
radeon driver for future Radeon hardware. Older driver update patches
can further be simplified later on to remove some unnecessary cruft from
them.
- Updated XFree86-4.3.0-radeon-support-backport-from-CVS-v2.patch to fix a few
missing chip IDs in a section of radeon_driver.c
- Enabled DRI support for ppc for build_cambridge target
* Mon Oct 06 2003 Mike A. Harris <mharris(a)redhat.com> 4.3.0-36.2
- This build contains conditionalized build changes for RHL 8.0, intended to
allow pain free compilation and installation of 4.3.0 in RHL 8.0. All
changes are conditionalized to build_psyche to limit their effects strictly
to RHL 8.0 builds unless the change is an obvious no-risk fix that wont
harm current development or erratum.
- Renamed fontconfig-2.1-slighthint.patch due to a problem which was reported
by a user recompiling XFree86 on Red Hat Linux 8.0, getting a fontconfig
dependancy, recompiling and installing fontconfig, and then trying to
recompile XFree86 from their previously installed XFree86 source rpm. Both
XFree86 and fontconfig contain a patch of the same name, and the fontconfig
one overwrote the one from the XFree86 packaging. The two patches are
identical but the directory paths modified to match XFree86's fontconfig path.
The new patch name is XFree86-4.3.0-redhat-fontconfig-2.1-slighthint.patch
- Added "Provides: Xft-devel = %{xftver}" to XFree86-devel and "Provides:
Xft = %{xftver}" to XFree86-libs, both wrapped with build_psyche for Red Hat
Linux 8.0 compatibilty as many packages brokenly hardcode Xft dependancies
- Disabled the Conflicts: Xft-devel and Conflicts: Xft lines from the -libs and
-devel packages as they seem to prevent upgrades from working from XFree86
4.2.x to 4.3.0 on RHL 8.0 systems as the package both provides, and obsoletes,
Xft and Xft-devel, and the 'conflicts' line seems to make it conflict with
itself.
- Fixed some broken with_fontconfig conditionalization for cases where XFree86
supplied fontconfig is used for building, just so the option actually works
if someone sets it.

Default Folder icon no longer scalable?
by Steven Garrity
After installing test2, I noticed that the default folder icon (which is
beautiful by the way) is no longer scalable (bitmap only, not svg
anymore?). The previous installation I had was RedHat 9, and it did
include a scalable version of the default folder icon.
Is this intentional? A mistake? Apologies if this isn't the appropriate
list.
Thanks,
Steven Garrity

redhat-config-xfree86 with dual head support
by Brent Fox
redhat-config-xfree86-0.9.9-2.noarch.rpm is available in Rawhide now and
now supports configuring dual-head monitor setups. You'll need to
upgrade to the latest rhpl and kudzu as well.
I'm sure there's bugs in it, so please try it out and see if you can
break it. If you don't have a dual-head setup, it would still be
helpful if you would test to make sure I didn't break the single-head
setup accidentally. The UI is a pretty big change from what shipped in
Fedora Test 2.
Cheers,
Brent

custom DHCP vendor class identifiers
by Rudi Chiarito
Hi.
Browsing the kickstart list I found that I am not the only one who might
have a use for specifying a custom DHCP vendor class identifier, which,
in RFC 2131, is a "SHOULD" requirement for clients. Both dhcpd and
dhcpcd already support it; what is missing is the little bit of
infrastructure necessary to have dhcpcd (and anaconda's built-in pump
client) easily configured to use it.
https://listman.redhat.com/archives/kickstart-list/2003-June/msg00125.html
Also hoping that the feature could make it for the next beta, I quickly
created some patches for ifup, libpump.a and anaconda's kickstart. To be
honest, not only I haven't tested them, I haven't even had the chance to
compile them yet -- no access to my main system right now.
I bet there are problems with the code as it is and I must have missed
something, but I thought it could be worth starting to discuss whether
or not the idea has merit. Somebody with more anaconda/pump experience
might be able to quickly point out any flaws. I should be able to test
the patches later today; in the meantime you can give them a look at
http://uberh4x0r.org/~yax/dhcp_classid/
One shortcoming that I can see so far, if I understood the anaconda code
correctly, is how to pick up the class ID while in rescue mode. In that
case, though, you can still restart dhcpcd manually with the appropriate
-i switch.
The patches add a new "ksclass" boot loader option and a "--class"
switch to kickstart's "network" option. Which reminds me I need to
update the documentation as well.
The use of the two new keywords is orthogonal; e.g. in some cluster
setups you might want to use the former, but not the latter -- or
viceversa. For the time being, no changes are applied to any user
interfaces, as this is a feature that is hardly going to be needed by
anyone but power users. I.e., if you require it, you are likely using
kickstart installs already.
I did not file a Bugzilla report because I wasn't sure which component
it applies mainly to. I can create one -- or three, for each of the
components -- if deemed more appropriate.
