Are there lurking trademark issues here as well...with regard to using
"Fedora" to describe what "legacy" is. I'm not sure if this plan for
Fedora Legacy, falls within the current Trademark Guidelines for the
mark "Fedora." Simply put...can it even be called "Fedora Legacy" under
the currently stated trademark guidelines, if it has a separate
distribution structure?

Regarding the Mirror structure and Fedora Legacy
by Warren Togami
[This was posted to Red Hat's mirror discussion list during a thread
about the new Fedora mirror structure. Please do not cross-post replies
as the ramifications of the mirror structure will effect all parties, so
fedora-devel-list is appropriate for this discussion.]
The current discussion between RH people and the interim Fedora Legacy
planning team [1] seems to be that Legacy will not publish packages
within the regular Fedora mirror structure. Instead both RH and Legacy
want users to consciously change their configurations to point to the
new location when a distribution hits the point of EOL, in order to make
it clear that the packages are coming from a different source than those
officially published and supported by RH the company.
I personally really dislike this as I had hoped that Legacy would simply
publish packages within the same directory, making it easy for the users
and system administrators. Despite some protests from irrational people
like me, it seems that the distribution system will need to be separate.
There is already discussion about Pogo Linux supplying the server
infrastructure for Legacy to be hosted somewhere in the Seattle area.
Given the separateness of the repositories, the setup and transition as
well as choosing of mirrors for both regular Fedora and Legacy would be
eased by a theoretical GUI/TUI program that downloads a GPG signed list
of official mirrors, and allows the administrator to choose. I hope
that we can work on such a program for the future of Fedora.

Japanese OpenOffice 1.1.0
by Warren Togami
http://togami.com/~warren/archive/2003/nihongo-ooo-1.1.0.png
I am happy to report that Japanese input in OpenOffice 1.1.0 works fine
after you enable Japanese mode within the Language settings of the
Configuration menu. I am extremely happy that it now automatically
chooses the Japanese font "Kochi Mincho" rather than the user needing to
choose it manually.
In order to run it from English mode, run the following from a script:
#!/bin/bash
kinput2 -canna &
LANG=ja_JP XMODIFIERS="@im=kinput2" oowriter
There is a slight problem where the little kinput2 has a blank rectangle
within it rather than the usual Japanese characters. I suspect it isn't
set to use the correct font internally. I will file this in Bugzilla.
(I am not sure if my grammar in the above screenshot is correct. Please
correct me if it is wrong. =)

Blender + openal can probably be rebuilt without smpeg.
Should it be done ?

It's a nice concept, but seems like a pain to keep the real library
and the dummy one in sync as the library gets updated.

It will probably also be a pain for users tracking/deciding wether it
is illegal in their country or not.(for the 1% of users that actually
care..)

I'll probably not comment on that..

VNC

Any reason why RealVNC 4.0b4 is included in Fedora instead of the
current tightvnc, of which an older version was included in RHL 9?
