Just preference /etc/lsb-release if it exists and then fallback. It is
much more generic in that approach. If you install the lsb packages on
debian /etc/lsb-release should exist and provide the same basic
information you're looking for. os.stat() should do the trick pretty
well but thats just a thought. Great work on the *buntu / Debian
support.
