Maybe try with a 4.1 kernel to see if the problem is improved/fixed there.

The error handling is better with the new kernel, but unfortunately I'm
getting the same error. I did see a traceback fly by. Does it help to
have this or report this somewhere?
I suspect it is a problem between the X server and kernel. If I disable
lxdm and reboot first, I can shut down just fine with no errors even
after some time has passed.
