Just a pipe-dream, but how hard would it be to take these SoC-specific
requirements and move them into a module that could get put into the
initramfs? Is there enough generic across all e.g. Armv5 boards that
this could happen?
At the moment impossible. Once devicetree gets completed it then
becomes quite probable.
