No sound from Flash
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I'm using the Adobe flash-plugin. I get video but no sound from flash
movies, e.g. youtube.com. Maybe there's a missing codec, but vlc and
xine both work fine and there are no error messages I can see.
(I also tried swfdec but it was worse; not even the video showed).
libflashsupport is installed.
Any thoughts?

ark and rar
by Patrick O'Callaghan
In F8 I used to use Ark (KDE utility) to unpack .rar files, but in F9 it
no longer works. Ark doesn't recognize .rar although I installed the
unrar package. Am I missing something?

Here's what happened to xfwm4
by John Summerfield
I installed it, but don't get to choose it when logging in.
Here, I think, is why:
[summer@potoroo ~]$ rpm -qi xfwm4
Name : xfwm4 Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 4.4.2 Vendor: Fedora Project
Release : 3.fc9 Build Date: Wed 30 Apr 2008
04:29:14 AM WST
Install Date: Mon 12 May 2008 11:11:39 AM WST Build Host:
xenbuilder2.fedora.redhat.com
Group : User Interface/Desktops Source RPM:
xfwm4-4.4.2-3.fc9.src.rpm
Size : 2655388 License: GPLv2+
Signature : DSA/SHA1, Thu 01 May 2008 01:44:19 AM WST, Key ID
b44269d04f2a6fd2
Packager : Fedora Project
URL : http://www.xfce.org/
Summary : Next generation window manager for Xfce
Description :
xfwm4 is a window manager compatible with GNOME, GNOME2, KDE2, KDE3 and
Xfce.
[summer@potoroo ~]$ rpm -ql xfwm4 | grep xsessions
[summer@potoroo ~]$
I gather it should be tucking a .desktop file into /usr/share/xsessions/
and also a file into /etc/X11/xinit/Xclients.d (see Mike A. Harris
(mharris(a)mharris.canuck) on 2005-04-05 07:52 EST
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=142260 for this one)

freezing machine updated/upgraded to rawhide/current sulfur
by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
I have updated/upgraded the machine that was freezing all the time to Rawhide using Fedora Preview Iso + Updates.
There is only one gotcha. Grub is not working correctly?
When starting up machine. IT does nothing it stays at
GRUB
and stays there. I can successfully boot it using livecd's to boot the partition.
[students@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 9 (Sulphur)
[students@localhost ~]$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 #1 SMP Thu May 1 06:28:41 EDT 2008 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
[students@localhost ~]$
I have already run grub-install /dev/sda1 from Fedora 9 Preview DVD to make sure everything is ok. Is there anything that looks incorrect in grub.conf below.
BTW: Machine does not freeze anymore. Maybe it did not like Fedora 8.
Thanks in Advanced,
Antonio

Windowmaker on fedora-release-9-2.
by John Summerfield
Has too few menu items, they seem to be built in rather than reflect
what's actually installed.
Eg menu items for abiword and dia do not work on my system as the
programs are not installed. OTOH, seamonkey _is_ installed and there are
no menu items for it.

Upgrade -> rawhide disaster
by Neal Becker
I just tried a 2nd upgrade F8-> rawhide.
On reboot, it hung a long time on bringing up eth0, and failed. This never
had a problem on F8.
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B
PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)
When it went to start X, all I got was an 'X'. And an apparantly dead
machine.
I rebooted into mode 3. Ran top. Nothing showed a significant load
average. Quit top. Now, no response from keyboard.
Rebooted into mode 1. Looked at /var/log/messages. Millions(?) of lines
from named. chkconfig named off. Rebooted again. Now, running OK, but
still no eth0.
No wired shown in NM. Don't know why.
